At first, I thought as long as the racing is good, next year's turbo V6s in F1 don't really matter. Now I realize that I'm partially wrong.
The reason for this opinion is that I'm used to the current V8s, which although they sound good, don't sound amazing . Today, I've been watching old V10 era F1 videos, and I realized why people are so outraged at the change. The V10s sound.... epic. Just...whoa. I never really realized they were that awesome. When the V10 era ended in 2005, I was 8, and although I loved cars, I didn't really know much about F1 except for that I played a video game with that name once. The V10 era just seems to epitomize the craziness that is F1. In 2004, many of the lap records set still hold today! Before today I just usually shrugged off people who complained about the change to V6s, because "they're just nostalgists, they don't matter". Now I understand. Bring back the V10s, and maybe turbo them too because why not?! (Note: I'm still going to watch F1 next year, its definitely going to be awesome, but it just won't sound as good.)

Mmm...that's freaking sexy. It has a more manly roar to it than a V10, but I still like the V10s more because of the super high revs. Lambo needs to come back to F1, ha!

Darn, that's evocative of watching F1 when I was a kid

I personally enjoy the 90s V12s! They didn't scream, they had more of a roar to them. They just sounded like power.
Lamborghini V12
I really liked the Dino V12 as well.
And finally the Honda V12!

Whoa that Honda one sounds awesome, better than the Lambo and barely better than the Ferrari one.

I do like the scream of the V10s, but every generation of engines are their own event, and the V6 with ERS turbos is going to be wicked awesome. Less than two liters with nearly 1000 hp?! The SHHHH noise on the v6s is it's own event.

I think the Lambo one sounds the best, the problem is there are no good videos on youtube! Only old cockpit views and crappy recordings of flybys :(

You really need to hear the F1 motors in person. Attend a few vintage open-wheel races with F1 cars. Locate some with F1 cars from the early years. Maybe some Autounion V-16 or BRM H-16s. Maybe some Matra V-12s. Maybe some Cosworth V-8s, Ferrari V-12s. But listen to them in person, not over youtube. It's just not the same. If you're a true hooner, you will appreciate them for each unique sound. Not as if there is a single good sound. Some will sounder better than others but under full chat, if you're a true gearhead, all of them should stir your blood and make you want to do some shifting at speed.....

Engine speed at 83% of the speed of the previous season
Drivers running at 90% to save tyres and engine wear
I'm trying to be optimistic, but urgh, what happened to the " Pinnacle of Motorsport"

I was 8 in 2005 as well. I'm 16, and have been following Formula One for about 2 years, with this season being the first that I watch all the races at 1-4 AM Eastern Time since Europe is home. Anyway, I've been watching v10 and v12 clips, as well, and you're totally right about bringing them back and slappin' a turbo on, because why the fuck not? It will be the nastiest (in a good way) sounding F1 car in the history of the sport. Hell, bring back the 80s turbo cars next year to show the 2014s what having a turbo really means. Go back to the Glen, Kyalami, Aintree. Formula One needs to turn back a little. Driving those classic cars in F1 2013 (the game) is amazing, especially that 98T and the F399... Man that shit is loud.
